Flood insurance, because your home policy stops at the water line

Home and condo policies don't cover flooding from rising water. Flood insurance does, and you don't need to live on the coast to need it.

What a flood policy can include

  • Building coverage

Repairs the structure, foundation, electrical, plumbing, and built-in appliances after a flood.

  • Contents coverage

Replaces furniture, clothing, and other belongings damaged by flood water.

  • NFIP or private options

We quote the National Flood Insurance Program and private flood carriers, which can offer higher limits or different terms.

Coverage varies by carrier and policy. We'll walk you through exactly what yours includes.

Why we compare NFIP and private flood

The National Flood Insurance Program sets standard coverage and limits. Private flood carriers can sometimes offer higher building limits, shorter waiting periods, or lower premiums for the same property. We quote both and show you the differences.

Flood insurance questions

Is there a waiting period for flood insurance?

NFIP policies generally take effect 30 days after purchase, with some exceptions such as a policy required by a lender at closing. Private flood waiting periods vary. Don't wait for a storm forecast to buy it.

My lender says I'm in a flood zone. What now?

Send us the flood zone determination and your elevation certificate if you have one. We'll quote the coverage your lender requires and compare private options.

I'm not in a flood zone. Do I need it?

Many flood claims come from properties outside high-risk zones, and coverage there is often inexpensive. It is worth a quote.
