When you shop for insurance, you’ll usually talk to one of two kinds of agents. They can look the same from the outside, but they work very differently.
Captive agents sell one company’s policies
A captive agent represents a single insurance company. They can only quote that company’s products, so if its price goes up at renewal or its coverage doesn’t fit your situation, your options are to accept it or start over somewhere else.
Independent agents compare several companies
An independent agent, like Corndell Insurance, is appointed with multiple carriers. We quote the same coverage with several of them and show you the differences side by side: price, limits, deductibles, and the details that are easy to miss.
Because we’re not tied to one company, our job is to find the right fit for you.
What changes for you
- At renewal. If your premium jumps, we can shop it again without you filling out a new application everywhere.
- When you bundle. We compare bundles across carriers. Sometimes the best total comes from keeping home and auto together; sometimes it doesn’t.
- When you have a claim. You call us first. We help you start the claim and follow up if things stall.
Does it cost more?
No. Carriers pay agents a commission that’s built into the premium whether you buy through an agent or directly. Quotes and policy reviews from us are free.
